Elleebana Rods or Shields, How Do I Choose?

After their release last year, questions continue to circulate around Elleebana’s Extreme Shields. Stylists want to know, which is better, rods or shields? It’s really not which is better, but what’s the best choice for your client. How do you make that choice?
Elleebana’s new Extreme Shields continue to be a top selling item here at Elleebana Direct, as stylists across the U.S. realize that having both rods and shields as an option is better for their practice.
Let’s deep dive into what makes these dynamic products so game changing. Shields and rods share many remarkable Elleebana specific features. Both silicone rods and Extreme Shields are made of high grade, bright orange, silky smooth silicone that is built to last. This durable material makes it easy to pull the lashes straight up into place and also ensures you can reuse them for countless services. The signature orange color will bring attention to all of your service photos, helping to promote your work. Dayna Laird, our head trainer always tells her students they will most likely lose one of their shields or rods before they have to replace them due to wear and tear.
Let’s first discuss what makes the shields and rods different. Rods will give a graceful and pretty curl your clients will love. They come in four sizes: small, medium, large and extra-large. Shields come in three sizes, small, medium, and large. Rods should be chosen based on the clients’ lash length and eye size. Results with rods and shields will differ. For example, a lift with a rod will give a curl similar to a C or CC curl you would see in lash extensions. A lift with a shield would be similar to an L curl.
Choosing the correct shield or rod size is a crucial step in achieving a stunning lift. To choose rods size, place the rod on the lash line and lift the lashes up, aiming for the lashes to reach ¾ of the way up the rod. This will ensure the most natural looking curl and avoid any curling back toward the eye if solution is placed too high. Anything else would be a specific customization. A smaller rod size will give a more dramatic lift and a larger rod will give a more swooping, gradual curl. Small rods and shields are great for shorter lashes, but we would encourage you to be quite precise with your solution placement. Small, anagen stage lashes should not be exposed to solutions. Large and extra-large rods are ideal when your client has hooded lids or a prominent brow bone as the curl brings the lashes out before they begin to go up, giving ample space between the lashes and any skin contact that could potentially be uncomfortable. A pro tip is to keep an extra set of trimmed rods for clients with small eyes. Trim the rods at the smaller end, 2-3 cm. This will make it much easier to adhere the rod to the lid and to isolate the lashes properly.
To choose the correct shield size, take into consideration the size of the clients’ eye and lash length. The shield should fit comfortably on your clients’ lid and the lashes should fall ¾ up the shield. Since shields don’t have a round shape, you don’t have to be concerned with the lashes curling back on themselves, however, you do need to be aware of the spacing between the brow bone and lid and where the lashes will fall. Shields give a drama-full lift and will deliver a wow factor.
In conclusion, having both Elleebana’s shields and rods in your supplies is the best choice for your clients. If you want to be able to offer customizable lifts that work for every client, both are necessary. Your clients are unique and so will be their results. It’s always our job to strive for the best lift possible. Having both rods and shields will give you the best results.
